Comic Book Characters and Heroes

30 - 45 minutes

Objective

Children are introduced to the working methods of contemporary dance by incorporating figures they identify with from their own worlds.

Context

Comic book heroes and idols have typical poses and move in particular ways, which they use to convey body images. Looking at image sequences featuring superheroes like Batman, Wonder Woman or sports idols, students feel close to their heroes and imitate their poses and postures as static positions, before connecting them with one another using transitional movements.

Questions

  • How does it feel to be a superhero?
  • How can we turn individual poses into sequences of movements and develop them into a dance?
